How do you categorize or describe BDSM, Leather, Kink and Fetishism?

What is it? Is it dressing up? Taking on an image or persona? Is it about tying people up with rope? Is it about whips and chains? Community? Pain? Sex? Getting turned on?

For me, it is about all of the above, and much more. The leather community provides a support network for people who have a wide variety of nonstandard sexual and stimulus based interests. These are only done correctly among consenting adults, otherwise they become abuse, and that's really ugly.

Some of my favorite kinks are listed below. I identify as a switch, so I could be on the top (giving) or bottom (receiving) side of any of these.

I'm convinced I was born with the nonstandard wiring that makes me enjoy this stuff. My parents quit spanking me (this was the norm when and where grew up,) because when they did I would laugh and giggle. Clearly that wasn't working. I also remember being around 4 years old when my aunts and uncle tied me up when they were babysitting me. I positively loved it and pestered them to do it again! I also remember fantasizing at a very young age about being buried up to my neck in sand and having a pleasant, warm, peaceful sense come over me.

I think you get the picture. My point is that I don't think being kinky is any more a lifestyle choice than sexual orientation.

Impact Play Anything that hits the body. Single tail, flogging, spanking, slapping, caning, and oh! so much more!
Medical Play Needles and caths and sounds, oh my!
Rubber Latex and rubber change sensations in the skin. There are lots of ways to play with this from clothing to rubber bondage tape to sheets of rubber against the skin.
Electricity Crackle-Zizz-and Zap! Who would have expected that the smell of ozone could be a turn on! Violet wands, tens units and stun guns (edgy!) are so fun.
